Welcome to The Group Rep at - Ernest Figureoa talks Group Rep

Believe it or not this is our 36th continual year of producing theatre in Los Angeles. Through thick and thin the doors have stayed open, producing classics, world premieres, comedies, and dramas. Truly, 'something for everyone!' Maybe that is why we have had such a loyal audience. Perhaps it is because out of thirty-five of those thirty-six years, this company had one fearless leader - the charismatic character actor, Lonny Chapman. It can be quite a challenge to follow-up with a company that has had such a stunning 'Act I'.

But with the amazing members of this company, 'Act II', the next 35 years, can only be more exciting! As the new Artistic Director of The Group Rep, I want to offer our audiences opportunities to not only see our company of professional actors but also maintain the traditions that provide awe-inspiring drama and wondrous delight well into this 21st Century.

So, we begin the excitement by opening with Rep-a-Trois, three incredible plays by established playwrights: the charming Heroes by Tom Stoppard; A Walk In The Woods by Larry Eisenberg & Fox Carney; beautifully poetic Painting Churches by Tina Howe; and the stylistically savvy Boston Marriage by David Mamet.

The holidays wouldn't be the same without Dickens' A Christmas Carol, but toss in a stunning, new adaptation by Richard Hellesen using masks and puppetry along with original music by David De Berry, and you have a Southern California Premiere not to be missed!

January brings corruption, greed, avarice and the rediscovering of a great American drama The City by Clyde Fitch. How could Fitch know his play would still resonate 100 years later? Amazingly it does, loud and clear.

If you know AR Gurney, author of Love Letters and Sylvia, you know that he is a playwright that is all about possibilities. An older woman, a younger man? Open your ears and cover your eyes! Gurney's play, Sweet Sue is twice the fun - for adults only!

It wouldn't be a Season at the Lonny Chapman Theatre without a World Premiere. Julie Daniels', The Redemption of Mrs. Satan, chronicles the life of Victoria Woodhull, the first woman to run for President, who was lost to history at the hands of Susan B. Anthony. And you thought politics were ugly today?!

We continue to seek out dynamic shows to compliment those already in our Season and plan for a summer musical as well.
