Cynthia Payo

Cynthia Payo is honored to be a new Group Repertory Theatre member and is eager to work with such talented directors, actors, writers, and artisans.

An actor and musician (sings and plays guitar and ukulele), Cynthia has appeared in the productions of Hamlet, Richard the Third, Exit the King, The Happiest Millionaire, The Sunshine Boys, The Owl and the Pussycat, California Suite, Two Gentlemen from Verona, Trial by Jury, The Zoo as well as the musicals Mame, Company and Paint Your Wagon; and the Glendale Centre Theatre Children’s Theatre productions of Cinderella, Popsicle Palace, and Sleeping Beauty.

Most recently Cynthia appeared on the GRT stage as Maureen in Can’t Live Without ‘Em. Previous GRT credits include Eunice in 70, Girls, 70 and Beatrice in Room Service.

Earning a BFA in Theater Arts from the University of Northern Colorado, she continued her studies with famed acting coach Lisa Wolpe of the Los Angeles Women’s Shakespeare Company and with dialect coach and actor Keri Safran.

Cynthia has worked with some of the top executives and talent in the entertainment industry for the past 30 years while raising two extraordinary kids, Jessie, a professional singer, and Joseph, a visual effects supervisor. In addition, she is inspired daily by her one-year-old grandson, Bob.
