Debi Hall

Debi Hall

Debi Hall (SAG/AFTRA) has studied with a who’s who of California acting coaches, gaining a robust foundation in character work, improv, voice, and technique. Her training includes: Joe Salazar (Los Angeles), Brian Reise, Scott Lairson, Robert Easton, Steve Eastin, Kristopher Kyer, Ivanna Chubbuck, and Daphne Eckler-Kirby, and The Groundlings.

She has portrayed a remarkable range of women—fiery, fragile, fierce—in both classic and contemporary theatre. Her standout performances include Henrietta Siberling in Bill W. and Dr. Bob, Lady Macbeth in Macbeth, Mrs. Bennet in Pride & Prejudice, Amanda in The Glass Menagerie, and the delightfully eccentric Madame Arcati in Blithe Spirit. Whether embodying Beatrice in The Effects of Gamma Rays or Bananas in House of Blue Leaves, Debi brings authenticity, nuance, and emotional depth to every role.

Debi is thrilled to be joining forces with Group Rep to bring her bold new 2025 comedy, Just Say Gay, to the stage—a hilarious, heartfelt celebration of identity, community, and unapologetic joy.

She is a passionate storyteller and playwright, known for creating original works that mix humor, humanity, and heart. Her plays—Dakota, Slim Pickins (a musical homage to L’il Abner), Class of ’65 (a high school musical), have resonated with audiences for their vibrant characters and timely themes. She’s also penned powerful monologues, podcast stories “Debi’s Diner,” “Quit Smoking” and  “West Texas” and reflective pieces in her storytelling collections “Sweet Tea and Tumbleweeds” and “The Middle Ages.” Her voice as a columnist, notably “Dish with Debi” for Nicholas Snow’s Notes from Hollywood, adds flair and cultural commentary to the world of entertainment.

Debi’s gift for storytelling shines in her original spoken-word collections that blend wit, warmth, and a keen sense of Southern charm. “Sweet Tea and Tumbleweeds” features tales like “Stuff & Nonsense”, “Guilt Trips”, “Sweating it Out”, “White Secrets”, “Santa Babies”, and “Summer and Smoke.” “The Middle Ages Collection” includes “The Seven Year Itch”, “Kimmie”, and “An Oklahoma Wedding Gone Wrong”. These stories, often performed live or adapted for podcasting, offer an intimate, humorous, and heartfelt slice of Americana.

As a high school drama director, Debi brought professional-level productions to life with a student population of over 400—proof of her vision, versatility, and leadership. She directed both original works and stage adaptations of classics such as Peter Pan, Pride & Prejudice, The Rainmaker, Franz Kafka’s Metamorphosis, Dark of the Moon, and A Midsummer Night’s Dream, The Merry Wives of Windsor, often reimagined through a fresh, student-centric lens.

Debi’s eye for detail and storytelling extends to costume design. Her credits include work with the acclaimed Merry-Go-Round Playhouse in Auburn, New York, on productions like My Fair Lady, Annie Get Your Gun, and Applause. She’s also costumed dozens of community and school shows, crafting visually compelling wardrobes that enrich character and narrative alike.

A creative force with a comedic edge, Debi thrives in character roles, dialect work, period pieces, and farce. Her outreach programs—like “It’s All in the Cards and Purgatory General” — demonstrate her commitment to theatre as a tool for healing, laughter, and connection. Add to that her experience in film “Dead Game,” podcasting, and live storytelling, and you have a multi-talented artist who lives and breathes performance.

I don’t like to brag, but I did come in second place in the Junior Watermelon Thump Seed Spitting Contest in Luling, Texas when I was 7 so…
