Ken Patton

Ken, a member of AEA, is a lover of Musicals, and the occasional play without music 😊. Ken has served as a Performer, Director, Writer, Producer, Music Director and Costumer Designer, as well as on 6 different boards, for various theatres and Arts Organizations from San Francisco to Los Angeles.

Born in Dayton, Ohio and raised in New York and California, Ken has been passionate about words, theatre and music from an early age. After spending 9 years touring in [6] different Equity productions, Ken continued his career in the Entertainment industry by taking a position at Modern Videofilm as Supervisor of the Billing department. Here Ken was responsible for creating and tracking post-production budgets for various high profile, multi-million-dollar budgeted television shows. Working with clients to oversee their post production budgets provided Ken with solid training and experience in production budgeting and accounting.

On the theatre front… working with Barry Keating, Ken contributed his energy and talents towards updating [the script, and lyrics for some of the new musical numbers] the revival version of the musical Starmites”… “Starmites, with music and lyrics by Barry Keating, was nominated for 6 Tony Awards, including Best Musical during its initial Broadway run in 1989. Ken is also working on the book and lyrics for an original, contemporary musical [Dirty Martini], as well as a dramatic play exploring the themes of love and obsession (Mine.)

Ken served as Writer/Producer of “This Is Nell’s”, a situation comedy developed in association with Carter/Kaiser Enterprises for the late, great Nell Carter. Production was completed on this project, but post production was halted due to her untimely death.

On the fundraising front, Ken is very proud of the fact that he was able to volunteer his time to produce a live CD recording of the 50th Anniversary Concert Ain’t We Got Fun!, which he also directed] for The Conejo Players, a local community theater based in Thousand Oaks, California. They are currently using that CD as a fundraising tool. Ken found the experience immensely enriching and rewarding.

Education, Outreach, and Development is of the utmost importance to Ken; which lead him to volunteer his time at J.H.F. Polytechnic High School, and Los Angeles Valley College both as a Theatrical Consultant, and as a Guest Director as needed, since 2003.

Previously, Ken served as Director of Hospitality for ACCV (Arts Council of the Conejo Valley) from 2010 – 2012, and at the Conejo Players Theatre as its Vice President from 2009 – 2011. Ken served on those Boards in a variety of positions, including Director Of Development, Director of Outreach and Education, and Director/Chair of the Play Selection Committee. One of Ken’s proudest accomplishments is the program he developed and implemented while serving on the board at the New Conservatory Theatre in San Francisco; a program for training, nurturing and developing burgeoning Directors and Producers, a program that is still in existence to this day.

Ken has worked on both coasts in a myriad of Arts related positions; in addition to Performing and producing theater, he has also produced films, television pilots and music videos. Ken also served as Coordinating Producer and in-house Production Manager for Mockingbird Entertainment Group, a major production company here in Los Angeles, where he focused his energies on development and pre-production for in-house projects. Prior to that, Ken served as Producer and Story Consultant on the independent feature “Swing” starring Jacqueline Bisset, Tom Skerrit, Barry Bostwick and Nell Carter, which had exclusive theatrical engagements in both Los Angeles and New York.

Ken spent the next 3 years at Columbia Pictures Television participating in their on-site talent training program, learning the various aspects of Television production. During that time Ken received on-the-lot training in Writing, Producing, Special Events, Publicity, Costuming, and Production Coordinating. Columbia Pictures Television provided Ken with his initial opportunity to write, when a ‘spec’ script that he wrote for the series “Married People” [episode: ‘My Prayer’] was bought and produced by the studio.

From 2003 to 2018, Ken worked as a Production Manager/Special Events Coordinator for Universal Studios, primarily providing support to the Special Events department, where he worked on various Special Events, including Award Shows, Upfronts, Fundraiser Events; Movie Premieres, Season Opening and Closing Events for various Primetime and Cable Series; Corporate Events; Conventions, etc.

Ken at various times has served as a Costume Designer on a variety of productions throughout Los Angeles and Ventura counties, including the touring fundraising entity, Broadway To The Rescue (ask me about their works sometime – they are AMAZING), and Odyssey Motion Pictures “Stripped”; a cable series being produced for the Starz Network [production was halted indefinitely due to COVID.].

Ken has also collaborated with numerous cabaret performers penning scripts and lyrics for their shows, including MAC award winner Kim Cea, and MAC award nominee Elaine Brier.

Clients that Ken has worked with include Universal Studios, HBO, Sony Studios/Columbia Pictures Television, and Columbia Records.
